The Elder Rises
New
The Elder: a legend the size of a rowing boat that rises once a day, server-wide, in a secret hour and weather, for whoever lands it first. Messages in bottles carry the day's clues. Landing it earns the Elder-Touched title.
Spot the fish: crouch and keep still at the water's edge, and the fish nearby show themselves (what they are, how big, and a glint on the rare ones). A cast lands nearest the fish you aim at, and that one is the keenest to bite.
Specialist tackle at the fishmonger, each unlocked by level: the Bottom Rig, Surface Popper, Glow Shiner, Storm Spinner and Deep Diver, each made for one kind of fish (they come over keener, nibble less and bite sooner); crickets, shrimp and glow grubs beside the worms; light rods (wide zones, soft strikes: for the darters and the slippery) and heavy rods (hard strikes that bite through armor); and a Night Lantern.
Levels unlock things now: the shop says what comes at each one, and a level-up tells you what you've just unlocked.
Favours: Old Walt by his bench and Pip out on the dock have a few things to ask, and so do the fishmonger and the pet keeper (a Favours tab in their windows). Each chain pays coins and XP, and a title at the end.
The aquarium: feed a fish bait from your bag and it grows (up to half again its landed weight), give it a name, and hang one on the wall of the aquarium wing.
Play now, no password: a new character can go straight into the world as a guest. Set a password from the pause menu whenever you like, to play it from any device.
Changes
New anglers start on the end of the dock with the rod in hand, and the first cast lands something with a colored name. Walking, jumping and crouching come up later in the tutorial, once there's a fish in the bag.
With more than one kind of bait in the bag, click the one you want on the hook.
Dress for the Job
New
100 new pieces at the stylist: ten outfits, each with a top, bottoms, shoes, hat, eyewear, neckwear, outerwear, belt, gloves and something for your back. Wear a whole set or mix and match, in any colors you like.
Free to everyone, even in the character creator: Chef (toque, check trousers, apron, oven mitts and a bag of baguettes), Lifeguard (rescue tube, swim paddles, shutter shades and a surfboard) and Safari (pith helmet, binoculars, canteen and an expedition pack).
For coins: Old Salt (sou’wester, gansey, chest waders, bobber necklace and a landing net), Scuba Diver (dive mask and snorkel, wetsuit, weight belt, dive computer and tank) and Detective (deerstalker, waistcoat, Inverness coat, magnifying glass and a violin case).
For diamond coins, and they glow at night: Firefighter (reflective turnout gear, a helmet lamp and breathing apparatus), Spooky (a lit jack-o’-lantern head, a glow-in-the-dark skeleton, vampire cape and bat wings), Astronaut (a glass space helmet, HUD visor, moon boots and a life-support pack) and Festive (Santa hat with twinkling lights, reindeer specs with a glowing nose, elf shoes and a sack of toys).
Cozy Nights In
New
Pet your pet: face it and press E (Y on a controller). It trots over for a scratch behind the ears. Press again for a treat.
Pets curl up for a nap when you sit down for a while, and sleep in their bed by the cottage fireplace while you’re home.
Pet beds from the Pet Keeper’s new Beds tab: a free Comfy Cushion, plus a wicker basket, a strawberry, a teacup, a cloud, a royal velvet bed and a dragon’s treasure nest.
Two new emotes to do together: Hug and High five. Do the same one back to a friend nearby to celebrate.
Fireflies drift over the meadow on fair nights.
A porch swing on the cottage’s wider porch, and a hammock out in the yard looking over the pond. Both rock gently while you sit.
Sunny Side Up
New
A brighter, cozier world: warmer sunlight, greener meadows, clearer turquoise water, honey-colored docks and moonlit nights you can actually see in. Clear days come round more often too.
Meadow, a new cream-and-honey interface theme, is now the default, with a rounder, friendlier font. The old themes are all still under Options › Display › Interface theme.
Colorblind-friendly fishing bar (Options › Display): a dark striped bar with bright hatched zones, told apart by more than red and green.
The catch card is bigger on large screens.
Phones and tablets
Larger text, and the coin purse and gear moved up under the clock, out from under the thumbstick.
The Cast button is solid gold and easy to find.
The character creator and the Stylist fit a phone held sideways, with far more of the outfits in view.
The tutorial always talks about the on-screen buttons, and moves out of the way during a fight.
Sharper graphics on the Low preset.
Fixed
Brand-new players go straight to the game instead of these notes.
The Super Duper Mega Rare badge on the catch card is no longer cut off.
Fishing Together, Safely
New
Report or block a player: tap or click their name in the chat, or open Players in the pause menu. Blocking hides what they say, on your device only. Reports go straight to the developers.
Delete account, in the pause menu while signed in. You can also delete your account at elderwild.net/delete-account. Both need your password.
Community rules and a privacy policy are now up at elderwild.net/rules and elderwild.net/privacy.
Fixed
The character creator no longer asks the server for hairstyle files that don't exist.
New Threads
New
22 new tops, bottoms and shoes at the stylist, with patterns that take whatever colors you pick: a flannel shirt, Breton top, camo tee, tie-dye tee, polka dot blouse and floral sundress; camo cargo pants, pinstripe trousers, checkered pants, tropical shorts and tie-dye leggings; checkered sneakers and rain boots.
And some for diamond coins: a hooded sweatshirt, knit turtleneck, sports jersey, tartan kilt with sporran, ballet tutu, cowboy boots with spurs, swim flippers, bunny slippers and winged sandals.
Storm, Frost & Koi
New
Three more premium outfits at the stylist. Stormcaller: lightning that strikes across the cloth, a thundercloud of your own over your head, copper lightning rods and a Thunder Trident. Frostborne: ice crystals that frost over and thaw, a crown of ice shards, snow goggles and wings of floating ice. Goldfin: sunlight rippling over koi scales, a lantern kasa hat and two spirit koi circling behind you.
Every piece is sold on its own for 💎 20, and they glow at night.
35 more premium pieces at the stylist, 💎 10 to 15 each, in any colors you like. Hats: a top hat, tricorn, crown, viking helmet and propeller cap. Eyewear: heart and star glasses, 3D glasses, ski goggles and brass goggles. Neck: a flower lei, gold medal, pearls, ruff collar and anchor pendant. Outerwear: a hero cape, puffer vest, captain’s coat, Hawaiian shirt and varsity jacket. Waist: a tool belt, grass skirt, champion belt, coiled rope and lantern belt. Hands: boxing gloves, bangles, spiked bracers, a wrist compass and crab claws. Back: angel wings, a turtle shell, a guitar, a jetpack and a shark fin.
Glowing Gear
New
Three premium outfits at the stylist: Abyssal (bioluminescent light running over the cloth, with an anglerfish lure hood), Emberforged (cracks of lava that creep and flicker) and Starweaver (twinkling stars, a floating halo and a crescent moon). Every piece is sold on its own for 💎 20, from tops to back pieces, and they glow at night.
Two new heads at the stylist: a big Fish Head and an Octopus Head, 💎 30 each.
Two premium rods at the fishmonger, the new best: the Leviathan Rod (level 11, 💎 50) with a glowing tentacle coiled round it, and the Eclipse Rod (level 12, 💎 100) woven from the night sky.
Two premium lures to go with them: the Magma Minnow (level 12, 💎 50) and the Comet Lure (level 13, 💎 100).
Diamonds & Dressing Up
New
Diamond coins 💎: a second, rarer currency. Earn one for every level you reach, one for each catch of 1 in 100,000 or rarer (up to 3 a day) and one for each rarity bounty (up to 3 a day).
A new character creator: pick a section from the bar along the top (hair, facial hair, top, bottoms, shoes, hats and more) to see a picture of everything in it, and click one to put it on.
The stylist works the same way. Try anything on, then buy the new pieces you keep with coins or diamond coins. They are yours for good.
The hard hat, witch hat and straw hat are hats now, so they go with any hairstyle. The shaggy beard is facial hair of its own.
Sleeve and leg lengths are picked right under a top or bottoms, and come with it: buy a top once and wear it with long sleeves, short sleeves or none.
Changes
New characters start with the free basics. Everything you are wearing now is already yours.
Everyone has the same face now, since the faces looked so much alike. Hair, facial hair and colors still make you you.
On phones the stylist opens along the bottom of the screen, so you can still see yourself.
Fixes
Sleeveless and short-sleeved tops show smooth bare arms, with no folds or cuffs left behind on the skin.
Sleeves added to tank tops reach all the way up to the shoulder.
No more bald patches under the short crop, shoulder-length, long black, braided, mohawk and short dark hair.
Pocket Angler
New
Play on your phone or tablet: drag on the left side of the screen to walk, drag anywhere else to look around and pinch to zoom.
On-screen buttons to cast, hook, strike, reel, jump, crouch and sit, trade or use whatever is nearby, plus a row for the menu, bag, stats, fish log, emotes and chat.
The tutorial, prompts and Controls screen talk about taps instead of keys on a touch screen. Pick up a controller and the on-screen buttons step aside.
Changes
Phones and tablets start on the Low graphics preset. Options has a new Touch look speed slider.
Wings & Close-ups
New
Butterflies flit between the flowers along the banks by day, and moths flutter round the lamps at night. Fewer come out in bad weather.
Land a fish and the camera swings in close as you hold it up, then back out to where it was once the catch card goes.
Changes
Hot spots look like churned water with a ragged edge, lit like the pond around them, so they no longer glow at night.
Fish feeding at a hot spot leap out of the water far more often.
On wide screens the patch notes sit beside the main menu instead of opening in front of it.
Things on the Bottom
New
28 new catches, for 100 in all: crabs, a mantis shrimp, a giant isopod, snails, a sea slug, a giant clam, a pearl oyster, an octopus, a cuttlefish, a nautilus, a giant squid, a ribbon eel, a sea snake, a box jellyfish, seahorses, corals, starfish and sea urchins.
Junk: old boots, car tires, tin cans and, in a storm, the odd message in a bottle. They sit on the bottom until something snags them.
Plenty of the newcomers keep their own hours or weather: pond snails come out in the rain, red king crabs in snow and hail, the giant squid only on wet, foggy or stormy nights.
Changes
Bites are less predictable: a fish might take the lure straight away or nibble up to five times first, with longer and shorter pauses in between.
The catch card stays up a little longer.
Room to Breathe
New
The cottage is bigger: every room has more space, and the armchair no longer blocks the bedroom doorway.
Running or walking through the shallows sends ripples across the water, with a splash at a run.
When your bag fills up, the inventory flashes red and the history window tells you.
The tutorial card glows so new anglers can't miss it.
Changes
Rain's bite bonus is halved (about +17% now, down from +33%).
Ambient occlusion is a little lighter, so shadowed corners don't look so dark.
Gulls fly lower over the pond.
A little more line hangs from your rod tip when you aren't fishing.
Fixes
Horses, alpacas and other animals no longer get stuck by the pond: they steer round rocks and the water's edge, and find a clear way out when they bolt.
Pressing Esc in the pause menu now closes it, instead of closing it and opening it again.
Lamplight & Leisure
New
Lamp posts, lanterns and dock torches light up the pond after dark, and a campfire with log benches burns by the fishmonger's cart.
Park benches round the pond: press E to sit down (two to a bench) and fish from your seat. Everyone sees who's sitting where.
The Stylist has set up by the cottage: walk up, press E and change your look any time. Everyone online sees the new you.
Titles: earn 29 of them for big catches, rare fish, levels, bounties and more. Wear one from Stats › Titles (K) and it shows on your name tag and in chat.
Photo mode (P, or click the right stick): hide the interface, fly the camera around and save a picture, with filters, tilt, zoom and a grid.
Every key and controller button can be rebound under Controls, and the on-screen prompts follow your bindings.
Birds: flocks wander the sky and gulls circle the pond.
Patch notes, right here on the main menu.
Changes
Worms are proper bait now: fish bite sooner, nibble less, give you longer to strike and rarer ones go for it. One is eaten per bite. Click worms in your bag to switch them on or off, and buy a full stack at once.
Your worm count shows in the bottom-left HUD.
Cast ranges are shorter across every rod, and the Reach stat adds a little less per point.
Animals graze closer to the pond, so there's more life to see while you fish.
Fixes
Emote and chat bubbles no longer overlap name tags that show a title.
Fixed a graphics warning with some Windows graphics drivers.
